Bacchus' Tears Necklace
The Greeks believed amethyst could prevent intoxication, carving drinking vessels from the stone to keep a clear mind. Later legend tells of Bacchus, god of wine, unleashing his tigers upon a maiden named Amethystos. She prayed for protection and was transformed into clear quartz; remorseful, Bacchus wept tears of wine, staining the crystal a deep violet. From this story came amethyst’s enduring symbolism of clarity, protection, and balance. This necklace honors that myth with polished amethyst beads, tiger’s eye accents, and a classical beaded style reminiscent of adornments worn throughout the Greco-Roman world.
