The Nile Necklace
The Nile Necklace
Like the fertile fields lining the Nile River, the striking green of Malachite had great importance in the lives of the Ancient Egyptians. Its lush green hue, called "Wadj," was linked to the afterlife's eternal fields and represented the power of resurrection. For the Romans, it evoked Juno’s divine favor, embodying vitality and maternal care. The earliest evidence of mining, from 4000 BC, comes from the area of Egypt between Sinai and Suez, where it was used for art pigments, jewelry, make-up, and processed for its copper content.
Necklace Information: Natural Malachite stone bead. 8 millimeter round bead on 14kt Gold-Filled Oval Starburst Chain. 16 inches.
