The Porcelain Road Necklace Set
The Porcelain Road Necklace Set
Starting in the imperial kilns of Jingdezhen, the famed “Porcelain Capital” of China, the Porcelain Road carried blue-and-white ceramics across centuries and civilizations. First admired during the Tang Dynasty (the 7th–10th centuries C.E.), Chinese ceramics traveled along Silk Road caravans and Indian Ocean trade routes to reach Persia and the Islamic world. By the Ming Dynasty (14th–17th centuries C.E.), blue-and-white porcelain had become a prized global commodity, crafted with Persian cobalt blue and exported through ports like Quanzhou and Guangzhou in Southern China. From there, it reached Hormuz, Basra, and Cairo, where it influenced Islamic pottery, including Iznik ceramics in the Ottoman Empire. Venetian and Portuguese traders later introduced it to Renaissance Europe, where it became a symbol of status and refinement. This two-necklace set, made of porcelain, lapis, and glass beads, echoes the deep blue hues of this historic exchange, paying tribute to the porcelain that once wove together the worlds of China, Persia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean.
Two Necklaces Included:
- 18-inch stainless steel chain, with natural lapis lazuli and glass beads.
- 12-inch carbon steel memory wire choker-style, with natural lapis lazuli and glass beads.
